Icaraizinho
This is a very special location along the coast of Northern Brasil, offering a tranquil and charming place with some amazing windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions for all levels and abilities. The official name is Icarai de Amontada, but is known as Icaraizinho, or “little Icarai”, a small fishing village on the beach, consisting of a few shops, plenty of restaurants, some nightlife if you want, but not enough to be bothersome, and lots of charming local people and life. Great for families, and not over-run with tourists.
Icaraizinho is considered by some to be the “small sister” to the more well known village of Jericoacooara, which is 90km further down the coast, or about a 2.5 hour drive. The beach here is stunning and ringed with lots of coconut palms, with the village right on the water’s edge in the middle of the bay. The Trades Winds are very consistant, blowing side-shore at a good 20-25knts (sometimes more) all day long and into the evening, from June through January (see Wind Statistics chart below). The inner bay is a bit sheltered from the wind and also the reef blocking the ocean waves and swell, providing nice flat water on the inside at lower tides. Our pousada is located at THE SPOT for the best wind and wave conditions in Icaraizinho, with unobstructed wind, so you can sail right up the beach with plenty of wind, then blast back out to jump and ride the small waves at the reef (at the high tide). We also have an opening in the reef very close to THE SPOT, so you can sail out into the ocean at low tides, or you can sail inside the reef in the flat water, increasing your time on the water!
